Are you aged 40 - 74? Do you have no history of stroke, heart disease, kidney disease or diabetes?
You are eligible for a free NHS Health Check, helping you to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
Everyone is at risk of developing the above illnesses and the risk of developing them increases as you get older.
Why do I need an NHS Health Check?
Your NHS health check will help to identify if you are at risk and provide you with help to lower your chances of developing these health problems in the future. Even if you feel well now its still worth having your check.
What will happen at the check?
The check will only take about 20-30 minutes and you will be asked a few questions about your family history and lifestyle choices which may put your health at risk. You weight, age, sex and ethnicity will be recorded before taking you rblood pressure. You will also have a simple blood test to check youcholesterol level.
What happens after the check?
You will be given your results and told how to reduce your risk and stay healthy.
- If you have raised blood pressure you will have your kidney checked through a blood test.
- You might need to have another blood test to check for type 2 diabetes.
- Treatment or medication may be prescribed.
