Fit Note for Self-Isolation
There is a National online system for getting a Fit note for the purpose of self-isolation. You do not need to contact or see the GP for this. Please click here.
If you are off work for 7 days or less, you do not need to give your employer a fit note or other proof of sickness from a medical professional.
When you return to work, your employer can ask you to confirm you’ve been off sick. This is called ‘self-certification’. The employer and you will agree on how you should do this. You might need to fill in a form or send details of your sick leave by email.
You must give your employer a doctor’s ‘fit note’ (sometimes called a ‘sick note’) if you’ve been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.
You can get a fit note from a GP or hospital doctor via Online consultation (eConsult)
